Indeed, welcome to our new tennis blog! Chip and Charge may appear to many of you to be a rather strange choice of name, but we reckon it's got a good ring to it. (or maybe tennis terminology is getting the better of us) Our last blog was called 'Double Bagel' until we realised 3 other imginative people had conceived the same idea. We thought of it first, honest.
So why do a tennis blog? Well me and Kit are tennis fanatics. We spent most of our time at University boring our friends (and girlfreinds even more) about pointless tennis stats and whether 'such and such' a player was on the comeback trail in a recent challenger event etc etc. Yet what we haven't done is find a viable forum for our knowledge, until now that is.
The Australian Open is a good place to start. Not far into the season and already we being treated to some mouth-watering tennis. It can only get better. And don't just expect Grand Slam coverage, sometimes the more obscure matches in the so called lesser events are the ones to pontificate about!

Carlos Alcaraz
The last year has been a meterioic rise for the talented young Spaniard, winning 3 titles already, including his first Masters last month. He's only 18 and still developing physically and it looks like he's already making improvements to his serve. Alcaraz has an all court game which is well suited to all surfaces (although yet to see him on grass). He broke into the top 10 earlier this week, which is huge milestone considering his ranking this time last year.

Benoît Paire
Over the last year we have seen a bizarre fall from grace from the previous world number 18. Paire has struggled make it beyond the 3rd round in any tournament, and had a string 1st round losses during the first half of 2021, before settling slightly towards the end of the year. 2022 has been equally barren though, and he's only advanced beyond the 1st round in an ATP match all year (although did make it round 3 at the Aussie Open). Paire sounded relaxed in a recent interview and feels his approach is still sound. There was an unsightly incident in Argentina last year where he was docked a point for spitting, before 'tanking' the final game. The frenchman has always been a contraversial character, but at 32, there is plenty of time to get his career back on track.
